“It’s not always about yourself” – Liam Rosenior hails Chelsea ace for “top, top display” vs…

Liam Rosenior was impressed with Liam Delap in Friday’s win against Hull City and labelled it a “top top display.”

The Blues ran out comfortable 4-0 winners at the MKM Stadium to advance to the FA Cup fifth round, with the draw set to take place on Monday.

Pedro Neto stole the show with a hat-trick, the first of his senior career, whilst Estevao also got on the score sheet.

As expected Rosenior made a number of changes to the team, which meant a start for Delap, with Joao Pedro left out of the squad completely.

Delap missed a huge opportunity in the first half, but made up for it with an improved performance in the second half, and ended up with three assists.

The England under-21 international has struggled this season, and has only managed two goals in 24 appearances.

Jason Cundy thinks a loan could be beneficial for Delap, but Rosenior was really pleased with what he saw from him against Hull.

“That’s what Liam’s all about,” Rosenior told Chelsea’s website.

“Running in behind, using his speed, and then his awareness to pick out Este [for our third goal] was top. It was a great run.

“To be a number nine, especially in a system that we play, it’s not always about yourself.

“It’s about bringing other people into play, it’s about sometimes making sacrifice runs so other players get space and [against Hull], he started our press so well. It was a top, top display.”

Emmanuel Emegha to arrive in the summer

Chelsea will be hoping Delap can take confidence from his second half performance and build on it over the remainder of the season.

He’s currently second choice behind Joao Pedro, but more competition is set to arrive in the summer in the form of Emmanuel Emegha.

Emegha has signed a seven year deal at Stamford Bridge, and scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 under Rosenior last season, and the expectation is the Dutch international will go straight into the first team squad to compete for minutes.
