The Phoenix Suns have impressed many throughout the first half of the 2025-26 NBA season, currently sitting within two games of the No. 4 seed despite battling numerous injuries.
Following the trade deadline, the buyout market has been slow to commence, with Cam Thomas being the only major name to sign with a new team.
That said, the Phoenix Suns added reinforcements via the buyout market Saturday, signing former Heat guard Haywood Highsmith to a multi-year deal according to Highsmith's agent.
Highsmith spent his last four seasons with the Miami Heat. Although Highsmith was a member of the Brooklyn Nets earlier this year, the Nets waived him before he was able to make his debut after recovering from knee surgery.
Highsmith's original target date to return was mid-February, giving the Suns a capable rotation player as the playoffs near.
In parts of five NBA seasons, Highsmith averages 5.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists. He's also shown capabilities as a two-way player, averaging a career-high 0.9 steals last season.
Although Highsmith may not step into the starting lineup, he'll be a valuable addition for Phoenix, especially if he continues to compete on the defensive end.
With that in mind, there's a chance that Phoenix may send him on a G-League assignment before debuting, in order to get him back up to NBA speed.
Following the All-Star break, the Suns will return to action Feb. 19 against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
Until then, Highsmith will have time to get acclimated in his new home.
