South Carolina football expected to lose a coordinator to NFL, reports say

South Carolina is expected to lose another assistant coach.

Per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire Gamecocks special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis to the same job.

DeCamillis was set to enter his third season on coach Shane Beamer’s staff after taking over for departing special teams coordinator Pete Lembo ahead of the 2024 season.

But it is not a shock that DeCamillis is heading back to the NFL. After being convinced by his father-in-law — then-Denver Broncos head coach Dan Reeves (a South Carolina alum) — to join the Bronocos staff as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in 1987, he spent decades in the league.

An NFL special teams coach for over 30 years, he was a special teams coordinator for a decade and a half, winning Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos (2016) and Los Angeles Rams (2022) before the Rams let go of him in 2023. By then, DeCamillis was into one of the most accomplished special teams coaches in football.

And it should be known that the Raiders’ new head coach is Klint Kubiak, the son of former Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak. Alongside DeCamillis, Klint was on his father’s staff in 2016 when the Broncos won the Super Bowl.
