Rob Page’s Reds took on a Baggies team rooted to the bottom of Premier League 2, having only scored one goal away from home all season.

Keyrol Figueroa missed out for Liverpool because of a knock, while Amara Nallo was serving part of his three-match suspension for violent conduct.

Calvin Ramsay, Trey Nyoni and Ngumoha were all named in the starting XI, despite featuring in the 3-0 win at home to Brighton on Saturday night.

The Reds didn’t make the ideal start to proceedings, with Miller McDonald stunning the hosts with a close-range finish to put West Brom ahead.

After being on the bench for the senior side against Brighton, Trey Nyoni made his presence felt back in the U21s.

The midfielder assisted Will Wright for a well-taken strike, ensuring the hosts’ deficit didn’t last long, only for Noah Adekoya to score an own goal after a hefty deflection.

Nyoni then turned goalscorer to make it 2-2, before Ngumoha produced the moment of the match just 18 hours after having a goal ruled out at Anfield.

The 17-year-old smashed a trademark rocket into the top right-hand corner from the left flank, giving the Reds the lead at the break.

Kieran Morrison added fourth goal sooner after the restart, seemingly putting Liverpool in control, only for Ryan Colesby to reduce the arrears.

Ngumoha’s afternoon ended with 69 minutes on the clock, being replaced by Tommy Pilling, as his highlight reel continues to grow.

Liverpool held on for a win that was tighter than it needed to be, as they jumped to fifth in the league table.

Next up is a trip to Nottingham Forest in Premier League 2 next Friday (7pm GMT).
