Mo Salah could be in line for a move to Saudi Arabia this summer as his Liverpool future continues to spark rumours
Karim Benzema’s exit from Al-Ittihad during the January transfer window could trigger a domino effect within Liverpool’s squad this summer.
The Real Madrid legend has left space for the Jeddah club to sign a new attacker, following his switch to rivals Al-Hilal during the winter window as a free agent. Al-Ittihad remain extremely keen on Mohamed Salah and this summer could be the time they finally get their hands on him.
Al-Ittihad want to sign Mo Salah from Liverpool
Al-Ittihad’s interest in Salah is long-standing. It reached its peak during 2023 when they offered a mammoth £150 million to Liverpool for the winger. Further reports even suggested the Saudi side had been preparing a bid in excess of £200 million for Salah’s signature.
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has reported that the departure of Benzema and former Chelsea star N’Golo Kante could spark Al-Ittihad to launch another pursuit of Salah this summer.
“He’s in the final 18 months of his contract, come the summer he will just have a year left on this lucrative contract and maybe it could be the right time for a parting of the ways for everybody,” O’Rourke said.
“Al Ittihad are looking to reshape their team. They’ve lost big players in the shape of Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante in the January transfer window. So maybe that will allow them to bring in a big name signing, and Salah would definitely take the boxes for them as well.”
Liverpool firmly rejected Al-Ittihad in 2023 but they could make a U-turn on that decision this summer. Salah’s contract is due to expire next year, so this will be the last opportunity for the Reds to bank a decent transfer fee for his departure.
Al-Ittihad will be eager to sign another poster boy for the Saudi Pro League and with Benzema at another club, this could be the opportunity they have been looking for to finally land Salah.
