Derrick Henry celebrates a rushing TD versus Michigan State in 2015 Cotton Bowl
Former Alabama football and current Baltimore Ravens’ running back Derrick Henry was asked what Alabama needs to do to return to its previous form during a recent interview with CBS Sports.
Henry played for the Crimson Tide from 2013 to 2015 before moving on to dominate in the NFL. He finished his college football career with 3,591 rushing yards and 42 rushing touchdowns. He took home the 2015 Heisman Trophy and was a member of Alabama’s 2015 National Championship team.

The NFL star running back feels the Crimson Tide’s players must buy into what they can do to uplift Alabama as a program to ensure the Tide returns to being the standard of college football.
“I know kids, if you don’t play, you can go to another program,” Henry said. “But when we were there, we were working and we wanted to build our own legacy. We heard about the ones that came before us. But what’re you going to do with your time there? And I feel like the only way we going to get back is if you lock into that and go do that. And I feel like they will. You are going to have growing pains. Coach Saban had his growing pains. Coach DeBoer will have his, but for you to be able to get back to that mountain top and be that top dog as far as a man and a player, you got to have that mindset of wanting to do that.”
Alabama is coming off an 11-4 season where it made the College Football Playoff and won a game in the first round before getting eliminated by Indiana in the Rose Bowl.
