Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors will miss this year's NBA All-Star Game.
In less than a month, Steph Curry will turn 38, but he’s still one of the best players in the world. The Golden State Warriors superstar opened up about his motivation for playing at such a high level.
Speaking at the 2026 All-Star media availability on Saturday, Curry was asked if there’s something he wants to prove in his career after four NBA championships and two MVP awards.
“I’m still chasing championships,” Curry said. “So, I think that’s the motivation. I feel like it’s realistic even though you’re not probably going to be on a team that is the perennial favorite going into any year. But we have, I think, a legit opportunity to make a run. And that’s what keeps me going.”
Curry added that the drive to win a fifth title is why he still works hard during the season. He remains committed to the grind during the summer, and most importantly, he still loves the game.
Steph Believes in the Warriors
Despite losing Jimmy Butler to a season-ending knee injury and failing to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline, Steph Curry is still confident about the Golden State Warriors’ chances of making the playoffs.
Curry mentioned what they were able to do last year as the No. 7 seed, eliminating the Houston Rockets in seven games. They came up short in the Western Conference semifinals after he injured his hamstring in Game 1.
“Jimmy going down was a tough blow ’cause we were really starting to take off,” Curry said. “If we can be healthy come March and April, hopefully, get out of the play-in (spots) battle, secure ourselves into a playoff series. And if not, like find our way into one. We feel like we’re still a dangerous team, and all you want is the opportunity once those seven-game series start, to have a chance.”
While the Warriors didn’t get Antetokounmpo, they managed to acquire Kristaps Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield.
Porzingis has only played in 17 games this season due to injuries, but he’s expected to get cleared after the All-Star break like Curry.
Curry Sends Message to Retiring Chris Paul
For one season in the Bay Area, Steph Curry teamed up with Chris Paul, who announced his retirement after a 21-year career. Paul started the campaign with the Los Angeles Clippers before being sent home and was eventually traded to the Toronto Raptors.
The Raptors then waived the future Hall of Famer, who decided to retire instead of signing another contract to finish the season.
In a post by the Warriors on their official X account, Curry delivered a message to his former teammate.
“I just want to say congratulations, man,” Curry said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “An unbelievable career. 21 amazing years. A lot of battles against you, but a great year playing with you, so enjoy retirement. I know I’m going to see you out on that golf course and everywhere, but congratulations, man. Beyond well-deserved.”
Paul played 58 games in Golden State during the 2023-24 season. He averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 assists per game, with the Warriors failing to make the playoffs.
