Michael Jordan's NASCAR vs. NBA Priorities Are Extremely Clear Sunday

Michael Jordan might be the greatest NBA player of all-time, but it's clear where his priorities are at these days - and it's not with basketball.

The six-time NBA Finals champion joined NBC this season, helping out with their basketball coverage. However, Jordan only did one sit-down interview with Mike Tirico. The interview was cut up and played throughout multiple broadcasts.

Jordan and NBC faced heat for misleading the public on just how involved the Chicago Bulls great would be with the coverage of the 2025-26 season.

"Had us thinking he was gonna be on set critiquing players performances. Had us hyped for nothing," one fan wrote.

"Thank the Basketball Gods! Same sit down 1-on-1 interview split in multiple segments, promoted like each one was new over many weeks, no change of clothes, background, and honestly didn't live up to the hype," a second fan said. "Poor use of MJ."

But these days, it's clear where Michael Jordan's priorities are - and it's with NASCAR, not the NBA.

On Sunday, Jordan is overjoyed to be at the Daytona 500 in Florida.

He spoke with Fox Sports prior to the race. Some are joking that he said more in his pre-race interview with Fox Sports than he did during his NBA on NBC interview.

NASCAR fans loving Michael Jordan's enthusiasm

NASCAR fans are loving how enthusiastic Michael Jordan is about the state of the sport today.

"LOVE hearing the GOAT talk Nascar on Fox this morning. Michael Jordan absolutely LOVES this sport and it's awesome to hear that passion shine through during his interviews!" one fan wrote.

"This Michael Jordan interview on FOX right now shows just how much he loves NASCAR. He knows his stuff. 23XI has four cars running today.ordan absolutely LOVES this sport and it's awesome to hear that passion shine through during his interviews," one fan added.

"Michael Jordan just talked on the Daytona 500 pre-race show longer than he did with Mike Tirico for this season of NBA on NBC," another fan joked.

The 2026 Daytona 500 is set for later on Sunday.
