Just as news surfaced on Sunday that the Seattle Seahawks are reportedly hiring San Francisco 49ers run game coordinator/tight ends coach Brian Fleury as their next offensive coordinator, reports came out that quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko is leaving the Pacific Northwest to reunite with Klint Kubiak and become the new offensive coordinator of the Las Vegas Raiders.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero first reported the Raiders’ expected hiring of Janocko. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier in the day that Janocko was interviewing with the team.
Bump: How Seattle Seahawks can take another step forward
Janocko was one of four in-house candidates who reportedly interviewed for the Seahawks’ OC job on Thursday and Friday. The others were passing game coordinator Jake Peetz, run game specialist/assistant offensive line coach Justin Outten and tight ends coach Mack Brown.
The 37-year-old Janocko has plenty of history with Kubiak, who left the Seahawks after their Super Bowl win to become the head coach of the Raiders. Janocko joined Seattle’s staff last February following Kubiak’s hiring as offensive coordinator. The pair was in New Orleans the season prior while Kubiak served as the offensive coordinator of the Saints and Janocko as the quarterbacks coach. They were also on the same staff for three years (2019-21) with the Minnesota Vikings, including when Kubiak was the offensive coordinator and Janocko the quarterbacks coach in 2021.
Janocko’s full time in Minnesota spanned seven seasons from 2015-21. He was also an offensive quality control coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2012-13 and quarterbacks coach with the Chicago Bears from 2022-23.
Las Vegas had also interviewed Seahawks wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson for the offensive coordinator job, according to multiple reports. Additionally, it interviewed safeties coach Jeff Howard for their defensive coordinator position on Saturday, according to Pelissero. However, the team promoted defensive line coach Rob Leonard to defensive coordinator on Sunday.
Outten was another Seahawks coach who drew interest from the Raiders, but the Seahawks blocked their request to interview him for a position as run game coordinator, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Friday.
This story was updated with reports that the Raiders are hiring Janocko to be their new offensive coordinator.
