Bump: How Seahawks can take another step forward

It’s hard to find many teams that were as complete as the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks were this season.

Should the Seattle Seahawks re-sign Walker? Barnwell’s take

On their way to winning the Super Bowl, the Seahawks featured a suffocating defense that allowed the fewest points in the league during the regular season. Their offense ranked third in scoring while featuring a balanced attack that saw its passing game and run game both rank in the top 10 in yards per game. And the special teams were outstanding led by explosive return man Rashid Shaheed and the reliable legs of kicker Jason Myers and punter Michael Dickson.

As the Seahawks head into an offseason that will be an important one in trying to keep their championship window propped open as long as possible, which area of the team should they look to improve to take another step forward? Seahawks Radio Network analyst and former NFL wide receiver Michael Bumpus answered that question during his Four Down Territory segment on Friday during Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy.

“You got your quarterback, you got the best receiver in the game, D-line is ridiculous, you got Ernest (Jones IV) and Drake (Thomas) at the LB spots, secondary is on point. It’s got to be offensive line,” Bumpus said. “I think they got to hit one more time with the offensive line.”

Seattle’s offensive line had been a source of frustration for many years entering this season, but the unit showed some major improvements this year while featuring a new left guard in rookie first-round pick Grey Zabel and getting a fully healthy season out of right tackle Abraham Lucas for the first time since his rookie year in 2022.

After allowing 54 sacks a season ago (tied for the third-most in the league), the group allowed just 27 during the 2025 regular season (tied for the fifth-least). It also made some jumps in Pro Football Focus grading. After ranking 25th in pass blocking and 24th in run blocking in 2024, it ranked 21st in pass blocking and 11th in run blocking this season.

While there were improvements, the O-line did have some struggles at times, even in the Super Bowl win. Despite coming away with only one sack, the Patriots were able to pressure quarterback Sam Darnold on 18 of his 40 dropbacks.

Bumpus zeroed in on right guard where the team has gotten inconsistent play from Anthony Bradford as the position on the offensive line Seattle could stand to improve at the most.

“I think that if you come back and he’s the starter, I’m not worried about it, but I feel like there could be some improvement there. Everywhere else, I think you’re solid,” Bumpus said. “… But O-line is the one spot to where if you can get even just a little bit better at that spot, this team can take another step.”
