Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, who sat out the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities due to an injury, has announced some big plans for next season.

Curry, who turns 38 years old next month and is currently under contract with the Warriors for one more season through the 2026-27 campaign, declared on Sunday that he will return to the three-point contest next All-Star break and will attempt to bring a handful of stars with him.

“Steph Curry will return to the three-point contest in 2027 🔥,” ESPN reported via X on February 15. “The two-time contest champ said he’s going to try to get Klay Thompson to compete, he announced on NBC 👀.”

Curry also said he will try to get Kevin Durant to participate and Damian Lillard, the 2026 three-point contest champion, to take part in 2027 and make it a star-studded event.

Curry won the three-point competition in 2015 and 2021 in New York City and Atlanta, respectively. Thompson won the three-point title in 2016 in Toronto. Meanwhile, Lillard has won the contest three times in 2023 (Salt Lake City), 2024 (Indianapolis) and 2026 (Los Angeles), per NBA.com.

Thompson departed Golden State in the summer of 2024 for Dallas via a sign-and-trade deal, inking a three-year contract worth $50 million with the Mavericks. Curry and Thompson won four championships together as members of the Warriors.

Curry missed the All-Star Game in Los Angeles due to lingering pain in his right knee. Forward Brandon Ingram of the Toronto Raptors replaced him.

Curry earned his 12th All-Star appearance during the 2025-26 campaign. Thompson has played in the game five times in his career, though he has not been back since tearing his ACL during the 2019 NBA Finals against the Raptors.

Thompson later tore his Achilles tendon during the ACL rehabilitation process, ultimately missing more than two and a half years due to the back-to-back injuries.

Warriors Have Battled Tough Luck During 2025-26 Season

Curry’s injury is just the most recent issue in a long series of bad luck for Golden State this year.

Fellow superstar Jimmy Butler III tore his ACL last month and will miss the remainder of the campaign. The best-case scenario possible for Butler is to come back around the beginning of next regular season, though he could easily miss more time than that.

Golden State also dealt with more Jonathan Kuminga drama throughout the early portion of the year, as well as an injury to the former first-round pick, before the franchise was finally able to deal him to the Atlanta Hawks ahead of the February 5 trade deadline.

Speaking of the deadline, the Warriors were unable to secure a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks for two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo — a player they have long dreamed of pairing with Curry and who would have brought legitimate title hopes back to the Bay Area with him.

Golden State is currently 29-26 on the season and sitting in eighth place in the Western Conference standings.
