Liverpool Handed Injury Boost As Slot Confirms Player Could Return To Action Earlier Than Expected

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says there is a chance that Wataru Endo could return before the end of the season.

It did appear as if the Japanese international had picked up a serious ankle injury against Sunderland, and while the midfielder won’t be back any time soon, Slot has suggested that the damage isn’t quite as bad as first feared:

“There is definitely a chance [he will be back before the campaign finishes], but he will be out for a while, but we cannot say exactly how long yet that is sometimes different with every injury.”

“Sometimes you can make that diagnosis straight away; sometimes you need a few more days to see how things develop, and that last thing is with Wata.”

“He will not be in the squad next week, and he will not be in the squad next month, but we’re hoping that towards the end of the season, he has a chance to be there with us again.”

Several Liverpool players are long-term absentees

In addition to Endo, both Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are expected to spend long periods on the treatment table.

Bradley and Leoni have knee injuries that required surgery, and unlike Endo, there is no chance of either player featuring before the final game of the season.

Updates on Frimpong and Isak

Liverpool should have Jeremie Frimpong available again pretty soon. When the Dutchman picked up a groin injury against Qarabag late last month, Slot said that the player could return within a “few weeks”. For that reason, a comeback against Nottingham Forest next weekend has been pencilled in.

Alexander Isak has been pictured in light training as he continues his recovery from a fractured leg, and Sweden boss Graham Potter has provided an update on when the striker could be back.
