Leeds now eyeing summer move to sign 'world-class' Man City star - journalist

Leeds are one of the sides showing an interest in signing Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider journalist Pete O'Rourke.

If Leeds manage to secure Premier League survival this season, they'll be hoping to make another assault on the transfer market to try and avoid a relegation battle next term. Daniel Farke's side have performed, arguably, above expectations so far this campaign, but there's still every chance they get dragged into the drop zone if things go downhill in the next few weeks.

The Yorkshire club are currently six points above the relegation zone, but West Ham have shown plenty of improvement in recent weeks. Nottingham Forest will also be under the guidance of a new manager, which could spark an upturn in form, with Vitor Pereira replacing Sean Dyche earlier this week.

Leeds Eyeing Goalkeeper Move in Summer

According to Football Insider journalist O'Rourke, Leeds are in the race to sign Man City goalkeeper Trafford, but they face competition from other Premier League clubs.

“Leeds will be among a number of Premier League clubs who’ll be looking at Trafford’s situation come the summer window."

O'Rourke also adds that Leeds could make a move if they stay in the Premier League, but a lot will depend on what Trafford wants to do and if he wants to leave City to explore other opportunities.

“If Leeds were to stay up, it might be an area that they might look to strengthen in. (There is) lots of water to go under the bridge before anything happens on that front, but I’m sure there’ll be a lot of clubs who’ll be looking at Trafford’s situation. A lot will depend on what the player himself wants to do, if he wants to move away in search of regular first-team football come next summer.”

Trafford has struggled for regular minutes at City, after they signed Gianluigi Donnarumma shortly after the former Burnley goalkeeper made the move to the Etihad Stadium.

Goalkeeper Move Makes Sense for Leeds

karl darlow

Goalkeeper Lucas Perri, who was signed in the summer transfer window, was recently dropped for Karl Darlow, which says a lot about how Farke rates the Brazilian. With all due respect to Darlow, the Welsh goalkeeper has barely featured in the Premier League over the last few years, and was only meant to be a backup option for Leeds.

Farke clearly doesn't rate Perri too highly, so finding a new number one heading into the 2026/2027 season makes season, and if Trafford, described as 'world-class' by Scott Parker, is available, he could be the ideal solution.
