Arsenal continue to chase Real Madrid’s Víctor Valdepeñas for the summer, according to Monday’s edition of AS.

On December 15th, Sport Witness covered Spanish claims of Arsenal having the 19-year-old on their agenda for this year.

Three days later, Sport Witness relayed news from Germany of Arsenal working behind the scenes to try and sign him.

Fast forward to February and AS on Monday picks up on that and cover the latest on Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal still alive in transfer race

Two months, Xabi Alonso started him as a left-back in Real Madrid’s 2-1 league win over Alavés, even though his preferred position is in the heart of defence. That has been his only first team appearance for the La Liga side.

Despite this, he has managed to attract interest from Arsenal and others. The newspaper state ‘a bidding war is brewing’ and several clubs would be battling for the Spain U19 international.

Arsenal’s interest ‘is the strongest’ and continues to be the case even now, indicating the Emirates club are ahead of others.

AS state the north London club’s pursuit to sign the defender in the summer is ‘still very much alive’. In other words, their plans haven’t changed despite new clubs joining the battle for his signature.

Gunners to face competition for signing

In addition to the Premier League side, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan are also in the picture to sign Valdepeñas.

According to the report, the Bundesliga duo have been following the Real Madrid player since 2024.

The Spaniard is also attractive to the Rossoneri, who haven’t made contact or an offer. AS indicate this could probably happen sooner rather than later.

Milan, BVB and Bayer Leverkusen would have to overcome competition from Arsenal to sign the youngster. That may not be easy considering his profile, as per AS, fits the London club. Valdepeñas’ ability to operate across several positions could also attract Arteta.

There’s no mention of the player’s stance of that of Real Madrid on the potential move in the summer.
