Arsenal are weighing up a move for highly rated French defender Castello Lukeba, with fresh reports suggesting the Premier League club have been impressed by the rapid development of the RB Leipzig centre-half.
According to Sports Boom, ARSENAL have been tracking Lukeba throughout the season and believe he could be prised away from the RB Leipzig roster for a fee in the region of £52 million ($71m). The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising defenders after moving to Germany from Olympique Lyonnais in 2023.
Sources close to the situation suggest that Arsenal’s hierarchy are exploring options to reinforce the defensive line ahead of next season. With long-term injuries impacting depth at centre-back in recent months, the club is expected to target at least one addition in that area.
Lukeba has drawn significant plaudits for his composure on the ball, pace in recovery, and strong anticipation in defensive duels. His performances in both the UEFA Champions League and the Bundesliga have reportedly elevated him onto the radar of several top clubs across Europe, but Arsenal are believed to be among the most proactive suitors.
A potential £52m transfer would represent a major investment, though the Gunners have shown a willingness in recent windows to spend aggressively on emerging talent. The club views Lukeba as a player capable of competing immediately for a starting role while still possessing substantial room for development.
For Leipzig, the France international remains under a long-term contract, but the German side have a history of sanctioning big-money sales when valuation thresholds are met. With interest mounting and the defender’s reputation rising, a summer move is not being ruled out.
Arsenal’s pursuit aligns with Arteta’s broader squad-building strategy, which continues to prioritise young, technically adept players suited to a possession-oriented system. Lukeba’s comfort operating on the left side of central defence is particularly appealing, offering both rotational support and potential long-term competition for Gabriel Magalhães.
While no formal bid has been lodged, preparatory work is understood to be underway as ARSENAL assess the financial framework of a deal. The Gunners are expected to face negotiations not only with Leipzig but also potential competition from other elite clubs should the situation progress.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Lukeba’s future is likely to remain a point of speculation. For now, Arsenal appear intent on positioning themselves at the front of the queue should RB Leipzig decide to cash in on one of their brightest assets.
