Arsenal Told They Are 'Not In Control' As Major Ethan Nwaneri Update Issued

Arsenal have been told they aren’t in control of Ethan Nwaneri’s loan move at Marseille amid recent changes.

The Gunners still have their hopes of a quadruple alive, as they are leading the Premier League title race over Manchester City, and still in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Champions League.

However, they will have to deliver in these competitions without Ethan Nwaneri, as the 18-year-old winger left on a loan move for the rest of the season to join French Ligue 1 side Marseille.

De Zerbi left Marseille this week

It was understood that manager Roberto De Zerbi was one of the major reasons why Arsenal wanted to send Nwaneri to Marseille, as they trusted him to help with the English winger’s development, before returning to Arsenal in the summer.

However, the former Brighton manager left Marseille earlier in the week, meaning that Nwaneri will spend the rest of his loan move under a different coach.

Arsenal don’t plan to recall him as things stand, but it could become a major issue for the Gunners, as they wanted to help control his development.

Arsenal told they ‘don’t have control’

Amid the De Zerbi departure, Arsenal have been told by European Football Expert Andy Brassell that they are no longer in control of Nwaneri’s loan move.

Brassell said on talkSPORT: That is a big problem. It felt like Nwaneri was De Zerbi signing, with Arsenal being reluctant to let him go in the first instance and then really Arteta deciding this is a place and this is a guy under which he can develop.

“If we go back and all this season Roberto De Zerbi has been talking about, ‘I need my number 10, I need my number 10 to finish my team off.’ And that’s why we know where Nwaneri is going in the team. That vision for him is absolutely what made the transfer happen

“You believe Marseille is the right club to take Nwaneri to the next level to help him develop and then if De Zerbi leaves all of a sudden you’re not in control of that.”
