Goldie and Submotive have unleashed new Rufige Crew EP ‘Metal Giants’.
Rufige Crew is one of the most storied names in DNB, a project that has evolved, stretched, and persevered over the decades. Helmed by Goldie and Submotive, they reunite for a bulldozer five-track EP.
Out now, ‘Metal Giants’ is fuelled by their competitive friendship, and they mutual roots in club culture and graffiti.
Dissonant opener ‘Metal Detekt’ grabs samples from a Stussy x Metalheadz collab advert on YouTube, while ‘Backgammon Blues’ should be taken literally – it was inspired by the duo playing backgammon in Thailand, and things got pretty competitive pretty quickly.
The EP closes with the title track, which loops a vocal sample from the late New York graffiti artist Dondi, describing what he calls “metal giants” – the New York City train yard which would essentially form his canvas.
“I wasn’t sure what to do with it, so it sat there as a DJ weapon”, says Rufige Kru’s Submotive.
