Chelsea green light to make midfielder move as target eyes Premier League return

CHELSEA are reportedly interested in signing midfielder Scott McTominay from Italian champions Napoli, with sources suggesting the Scotland international “dreams” of a return to the Premier League, according to reporting by Goal.

McTominay, 29, left Manchester United in the summer of 2024 after making more than 250 appearances for the club, joining Napoli in a deal worth around £32 million. Since moving to Italy, he has become a key figure for the Serie A side, helping them win the league title in his first season and earning individual plaudits for his performances.

Reports from Italy indicate that McTominay has maintained strong form in Naples and has been influential in Napoli’s midfield. Despite his success, sources familiar with the situation claim that he has considered a return to English football in 2026, with Manchester United emerging as the frontrunner among several clubs monitoring his situation.

Chelsea’s interest in McTominay comes against a backdrop of evolving midfield needs at Stamford Bridge. The club have been seeking experienced, dynamic midfield options capable of contributing both defensively and going forward.

McTominay’s physical presence, goal threat and familiarity with the club have been cited as attractive qualities by Chelsea officials.

However, while ***CHELSEA***’s interest is clear, the prospect of Napoli selling McTominay is less straightforward. Napoli reportedly value the midfielder highly after his strong performances in Serie A and might demand a significant fee to part with one of their key players.

For his part, McTominay’s stance appears nuanced. Sources close to the player claim he remains happy at Napoli, where he has been celebrated by supporters and coaching staff alike.

IcChelseanews Says…

McTominay has done brilliant over in Italian football and showed Man United that they made a mistake letting him leave the club, i mean he was voted the 18th best player in the world last year.

But even though he is a great player, he is not really needed here at CHELSEA and to be honest, we cant see a move happening when the summer window opens up.
