Opinion: Liam Rosenior will surely be annoyed as Chelsea willing to sell player he just branded 'fantastic'

Chelsea fans will have been left surprised over the weekend after reports emerged that the club are willing to offload as many as three current centre-backs this summer.

Aside from out-on-loan duo Aaron Anselmino and Axel Disasi, with the latter also likely to be a contender for sale, Chelsea are looking to make room at centre-back. Reports say three are on the chopping block.

Indeed, the club are willing to listen to offers for Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile, which might not be completely surprising. But what has come as a shock, is Chelsea’s stance on defender Trevoh Chalobah.

A Chelsea academy product, reports claim Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for the England defender. But such reports will surely come as a shock to manager Liam Rosenior, after his most-recent comments.

What Liam Rosenior said about Trevoh Chalobah this month

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s win over Wolves at the beginning of the month, Rosenior heaped huge praise on Chalobah. He mentioned the defender’s love for the club, and his “fantastic” form of late.

“Trevoh has been one of our bright spots in terms of his performances and what he understands, what we want, not just on the pitch and tactically, but in terms of the culture and what he gives the group.

“He loves this club. He understands what it takes to win and he’s made a fantastic impression on my staff and me so far,” Rosenior said, as quoted by Chelsea’s website ahead of the trip to Molineux on the 7th.

Why Chelsea are likely to be listening Trevoh Chalobah offers

Chalobah has been a key player under Rosenior, and clearly, the Chelsea gaffer likes the new manager. His form is improving, so why are Chelsea set to let Chalobah leave if the price is right this summer?

There have been suggestions that Rosenior has been brought in simply to be a yes man, and to agree to everything that goes on upstairs. But selling Chalobah would be a massive test for the Chelsea gaffer.

Surely, Rosenior will want to keep Chalobah at Stamford Bridge moving forward. Whether his opinion is taken into account by the Chelsea decision makers remains to be seen, an issue Enzo Maresca had.

The Chelsea board have likely come to this decision given Chalobah’s sale would be pure profit. As an academy product, he has not cost anything in terms of a purchase. But a sale will annoy the manager.
