Man City are reportedly interested in signing an England international who was close to joining Tottenham.

They are currently four points behind the Gunners, and could close the gap to just one point with a win against Newcastle at the weekend. However, looking ahead to the summer, Bernardo Silva is out of contract, and City need to decide what to do with the midfielder.

The Portugal international looks set to be leaving the Etihad, and if he does, Guardiola will want to sign a replacement. Reports have suggested they could go after someone vying for a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

Man City plotting move for Morgan Gibbs-White

Morgan Gibbs-White had a very busy summer last year, as he very nearly joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest, as it was understood that some form of agreement was in place for him to leave. However, at the last minute, he signed a new three-year deal at Forest, committing his future to the Midlands club.

It is understood that Tottenham remain interested in Gibbs-White, but according to Football Insider, Man City are interested in signing the 26-year-old in the summer. The report says that a fee of £70m could be enough for City to land Gibbs-White.

However, if Forest do get relegated, which is a realistic possibility at the moment, City could get him for less, as his value would significantly decrease being a Championship player rather than a top-class Premier League star. This season, he’s made 26 Premier League appearances this season, scoring six goals and providing two assists. He could be a worthy replacement for Silva in the summer.

Man City keen on Gibbs-White’s teammate too

Gibbs-White isn’t the only Forest player who Man City are looking at ahead of the summer transfer window, as they are also keen on midfielder Elliot Anderson, who is also expected to be a big part of Tuchel’s England squad in the summer.

Anderson is also subject to interest from rivals Man United, who are looking to sign a long-term replacement for Casemiro. Whereas, for Man City, they want to sign someone who can take some heat off Rodri, as the Spaniard has dealt with a lot of injury problems over the past few seasons.

It is understood that the 22-year-old is expected to command a fee of around £100m, as Forest really don’t want to sell him. However, much like Gibbs-White’s situation, if Forest do suffer relegation, Anderson’s price would significantly drop too. They are currently sat 17th in the league table, just three points ahead of an in-form West Ham side, who are one place below them in the relegation zone.
