'Even Arne Slot said so': Gary Lineker gives three reasons for Liverpool fans to be excited after slump

The last few performances signify a turning point at Liverpool, according to Gary Lineker.

For Liverpool fans, there is a worry about getting too optimistic given how inconsistent Arne Slot’s side has been this season.

Recent displays have offered signs of encouragement, but there have been signs all year. It’s now about reflecting that progress in the results.

What price are you quoting?

As a neutral, though, Lineker is ready to start believing in the Reds.

And it’s all thanks to three players.

Gary Lineker singles out Mo Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez in Liverpool claim

We have all been blown away by the levels shown by Dominik Szoboszlai.

He has been Liverpool’s best player this season, and continues to push the boundaries of what his ceiling at Anfield can be.

His compatriot Milos Kerkez has also exploded into life this season, and Mo Salah is starting to find a real rhythm.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

Lineker looks at those three, and has hope for Liverpool continuing in this vein.

He says on The Rest Is Football: “I think even Arne Slot said so in the press conference after the game. He said we’re in a good place. I think one or two of the players seem to be settling in more.

“Kerkez has been one. I see Mo Salah looking sharper. It might be a time to bring him into the fantasy team. I sense a good run of goalscoring coming. Szoboszlai is in great form.

“So I think you know reason to be a bit more cheerful for Liverpool fans who’ve had it tough the last few months.”

The schedule is looking kind to the Reds, who will be expected to go on a run of wins now after some promising signs. In particular, while Salah has been linked with a Liverpool exit, he is looking more like himself now and could yet reestablish himself as one of the stars.

Is Mohamed Salah about to make his doubters look REALLY stupid?

Salah’s numbers compared to other Premier League stars

It just goes to show how inevitable Salah is as an attacker, that his worst season in years is still putting some of the Premier League’s best to shame.

The Egyptian missed a month for AFCON, and was dropped for multiple games before Christmas, but the list of players he has beaten for output is startling.

His 15 goal involvements this season is better than Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Jeremy Doku and Bryan Mbeumo to name a few.

For Salah to be 34 and in the worst form of his Liverpool career, but still ahead of these younger superstars, is just another example of why he’s one of the greats.
