Mac McClung reveals stunning slams after skipping NBA all-star dunk contest

A Mac McClung four-peat would have been a slam dunk during the NBA all-star weekend if they counted social media submissions.

The journeyman guard from Gate City, Va., who signed a deal with the Chicago Bulls earlier this month after being cut by the Indianapolis Pacers in November, released a stunning compilation of slams on his Instagram feed after taking a pass on this year’s dunk contest for a “bunch of reasons.”

The first slam sees the three-time NBA slam dunk champ run toward a man standing on a ladder while holding a ball in front of a hoop. McClung leaps with his head tilted down and slaps the ball in midair with what might be best described as a backward volleyball spike.

The second dunk sees McClung ally-oop the ball to himself on one bounce before doing a reverse jam. Basketball fans have seen that before, but McClung sticks his legs out straight in midair, taps the ball on his toes like a diver doing a pike, and straightens up before completing the slam.

Dunk No. 3 needs a couple of views to be fully appreciated as McClung puts the ball between his legs in midair before doing a two-handed slam. Vince Carter did something similar during his legendary 2000 slam dunk contest appearance as a Toronto Raptor, but finished with one hand on an ally-oop bounce pass from Tracy McGrady.

Could he have challenged for 4th title?

However, the most visually stunning dunk might be the last. As McClung leaps in the air with his back to the basket, a teammate passes the ball to him from below and between his legs before he finishes with a two-handed jam.
