Rejecting Chelsea “the right decision” for sensational teen with 9 goals in 21 appearances

In form and in demand striker Yan Diomande says he is happy he didn’t move to Chelsea years ago when it was first suggested.

RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is tearing up the Bundesliga at the moment, and is being linked to a lot of different teams ahead of a potential move this summer.

As it turns out, he could already have been a Blue. The 19 year old says he was wanted by the Blues when he was still playing in the USA a couple of years ago.

Diomande explains why moving to Chelsea would have been a mistake

“A lot of people told me I absolutely had to play for Chelsea. Then I stopped everything and made a decision for myself. I knew the president of Leganes; he had helped with my move to the USA,” Diomande said.

“Suddenly, I was faced with a choice: Leganes or Chelsea? It was risky, but luckily, it was the right decision. I think patience is very important in football. It’s not always just about money. If you play well, it will come naturally. I’m young; I need to play to increase my sporting value, to improve. And I wouldn’t get that on the bench.”

It certainly was the right call at the time – his rise from American high school soccer to Bundesliga star in the space of a couple of years wouldn’t have happened had be been playing for our Under-21s. But there’s nothing to say he can’t make that move now…

Chelsea striker Liam Delap had one horrific moment at the weekend which is going to live long in the memory, and Liam Rosenior’s attempts to defend him reveal a lot.

The big debate among Chelsea fans today is around which defenders they might sell – the stats make it pretty obvious who the choice should be.
