Warriors' Stephen Curry makes major announcement involving Klay Thompson

Stephen Curry didn’t mince his words during All-Star weekend.

Before the start of Sunday’s All-Star game, Curry made a major announcement involving his former Golden State Warriors teammate, Klay Thompson.

“Steph Curry will return to the three-point contest in 2027,” ESPN stated on X/Twitter Sunday. “The two-time contest champ said he’s going to try to get Klay Thompson to compete, he announced on NBC.”

Damian Lillard’s remarkable performance in this year's rendition of the three-point contest likely influenced Curry’s decision to return to the event. Lillard narrowly defeated Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker in the final round, finishing with 29 points to Booker’s 27.

Lillard, who reunited with the Portland Trail Blazers last offseason, has yet to appear in a game this season due to an unfortunate Achilles injury. However, the future Hall of Famer managed to prevail on Saturday night and join Larry Bird and Craig Hodges as the only players to win the three-point contest three times.

Curry, who has won the event twice in his career (2015 and 2021), could join Lillard on that historic list if he finishes first again before retiring. It certainly won’t be an easy task, especially considering Curry is eager to compete against a 40.9% career three-point shooter in Thompson.

If there’s anyone who could pull it off, though, there’s no question it’s Curry.
