Igor Tudor recently joined Tottenham as the interim manager.
The Lilywhites finally decided to swap Thomas Frank at the helm at Hotspur Way after relieving the Dane of his duties last week after Tottenham Hotspur succumbed to defeat against Newcastle United at home in what is already a disastrous campaign at N17. The North Londoners brought in Igor Tudor to take over the reins from the former Brentford coach on an interim deal which would see him take charge of the North Londoners until the conclusion of the ongoing campaign.
While Spurs did end up with the option that Fabio Paratici initially wanted to bring to Hotspur Way, there were many others in consideration. That being said, Mauricio Pochettino remains a prime target for Spurs when the summer comes around, given that he is set to take charge of the USA in the upcoming World Cup.
Tottenham contacted Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira before sacking Thomas Frank
While the opinion on Tudor remains skeptical among the fans, he nearly did not get the job. According to a recent report from ESPN Brazil, Tottenham approached Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira before they turned their heads to appoint Tudor.
The aforementioned report claims that Vinai & Co. reached out to Ferreira about a couple of weeks back while Frank still had his job at Tottenham. But given that he has only recently penned down his term until 2027 with his current employers, he did not want to entertain a move to Spurs.
Ferreira has reportedly rejected multiple Premier League clubs recently, namely Nottingham Forest, Wolverhampton and even Chelsea. He is someone who is not easily persuaded by money or prestige. The report states that he generally prioritises having an environment with strong organisation, something that he surely had at Palmeiras.
Alongside Ferreira, the likes of Roberto de Zerbi, Edin Terzic, Robbie Keane and Marco Rose were also among the options at Tottenham.
Tottenham could be back in the run to sign Ferreira in the summer
While Tudor has an excellent record when he is thrown at the far end, he is certainly not a long-term option at N17. And while Pochettino would be a romantic favourite to take over the reins at Hotspur Way, the Lilywhites can still turn to the Portuguese head coach if a move for Poch doesn’t materialise for whatsoever reason.
