After Beverly Hills police shut down an event organized by Jaylen Brown, the Boston Celtics star called out the city on social media. According to Brown, the ‘trash’ California community cost him $300,000.
On Saturday night, the night before the NBA’s All-Star Game on Sunday, Boston Celtics star forward Jaylen Brown hosted an event to promote his performance brand 741 at a private residence — the home of Oakley founder Jim Jannard’s house, whom Brown is sponsored by.
The BHPD, however, claims that Brown did not have the proper permission to host the event and that’s why they shut it down.
“On Saturday, February 14, the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) responded to an event taking place at a private residence in the Trousdale neighborhood of the City. An event permit had been applied for and denied by the City due to previous violations associated with events at the address,” the City of Beverly Hills said in a statement.
“Despite the fact that the permit was denied, organizers still chose to proceed with inviting hundreds of guests knowing that it was not allowed to occur. BHPD responded and shut down the unpermitted event.”

For a little more context, the police came to shut down Jaylen Brown’s panel in Beverly Hills around 7 PM, claiming he didn’t file the proper permit.
“I know I play for the Celtics, and I know we’re in LA. But hey, I didn’t think y’all would do me like this.”

Brown has certainly made his feelings known in the aftermath, as he called the city of Beverly Hills “trash” on social media while also accusing them of sending the $300,000 his spent on the event “down the train.”
Beverly Hills is so trash I’m offended had a great panel about the future of culture with great guest people worked hard for this how dare yall

The fiasco prompted a response from Jemele Hill, who predictably seized on the opportunity to chime in. Brown obviously endorsed her sentiment, though, as he retweeted it onto his page.
I live in LA and everybody knows that Beverly Hills is on this type of time. JB rented a spot worth between $60M-$70M … trust me when I tell you they selectively “enforce” all the time. https://t.co/PauzhZUgrX

Jaylen Brown detailed the situation while speaking to reporters at the All-Star Game on Sunday
In addition to his comments on social media, Brown spoke about the incident at length when speaking to the media at the All-Star Game on Sunday.
“I’m offended by Beverly Hills by the statement they put out, like we applied for something and didn’t get it, and we did it anyway [and] we were insubordinate,” Brown said. “I know how to follow the rules. I’m smart enough to follow the guidelines. It just seemed like somebody didn’t want whatever we had going on to go on because out of everybody that was doing something, it seemed like I was the only one that gets shut down.”
“We didn’t need a permit because the owner of the house, that was his space. We were family friends. He opened up the festivities to us so we didn’t have to. We never applied for one. … I didn’t have to pay for the house or anything. They just opened it up. I had to pay for the build-out, but it was hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted for an event that was supposed to be positive.”
“It was hundreds of thousands of dollars lost down the toilet. A lot of work that got put into this. A lot of effort got put into this, so I’m more offended for my team. They did a lot of work to do an activation for my brand, 741. We partnered with Oakley,” he continued.
“So, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth here in L.A. for the All-Star Weekend. It’s super distracting for y’all to even have to ask me questions about this, especially. We should be here talking about basketball, but yesterday wasn’t great.”
During the All-Star game on Sunday, Brown played on the “Stripes” team and played a total of 20 minutes across two games. In the first round against team world, he had 0 points, 0 rebounds, 1 assists, and 2 blocks. In the championship against the “Stars” team, he had 4 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.
