Why Dolphins are cutting Tyreek Hill after four seasons in Miami

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly cutting ties with a third veteran this offseason.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dolphins are cutting veteran wide receiver Tyreek Hill after four seasons with the team.

This is the fourth reported cut for the Dolphins on Monday, as rumor has it the team is also parting ways with edge rusher Bradley Chubb, guard James Daniels and wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.

Hill was traded to the Dolphins in 2022 and had one more year left on his three-year, $90 million contract.

Why Dolphins are cutting Tyreek Hill

While Hill had some really good years in Miami, the time had come for the team to part ways with him.

Hill is set to turn 32 this year and is coming off a campaign in which he suffered a dislocated knee cap and torn ligaments. As NFL Network's Tom Pelissero notes, there's no guarantee Hill will even be able to play in 2026.

If not for that injury, the Dolphins likely could've found a trade partner for Hill.

Holding on to an expensive, untradeable veteran wide receiver who is coming off a major injury didn't make much sense for Miami, especially when you consider the team's need for more cap space.

By cutting Hill, the Dolphins take on $28.2 million in dead money while saving $22.8 million in cap space.

With the four reported cuts, the Dolphins will now be in the positive.
