Tyreek Hill is now available for the Kansas City Chiefs without even needing a trade.
The Miami Dolphins released Hill on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"Sources: Miami’s eight-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill is being released," Schefter wrote on X. "Hill turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a dislocated knee and torn ACL, and now will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career. His release will save the Dolphins $22.8 million against the salary cap."
The Chiefs are going to be a popular link to Hill from now until free agency opens.
He, of course, was a superstar with Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City before leaving for Miami.
Coming off his big injury, though, it's unclear what level Hill will be able to play at going forward as he enters his age-32 season.
If the Chiefs can get him on a cheap deal, though, it's probably a worthwhile thing to try.
Hill played his first six NFL seasons for the Chiefs. He had 479 catches for 6,630 yards and 56 touchdowns with Kansas City.
Hill won one Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs and made the Pro Bowl in every one of his seasons there.
Andy Reid and Mahomes certainly know how to use Hill. They even brought back offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy this offseason, which adds another familiar face.
If Hill wants a comfort level and a place where he feels he belongs, Kansas City is probably the logical destination.
The Chiefs won't be the only interested team, but they're the one everyone will point to unless proven to have a reason to think otherwise.
