The $22.8 million reason the Dolphins released Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill is one of the most talented wide receivers that the NFL has had in the last decade, but things haven't gone to plan recently for the eight-time Pro Bowler.

After four seasons with the Dolphins, the team has decided to make a strategic move by releasing Hill.

Why did the Dolphins waive Tyreek Hill?

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday morning that Hill would no longer be with the team, after it was announced the Dolphins were releasing him.

Hill has voiced in recent years that he thinks retirement is around the corner for him, but he was still under contract when the Dolphins decided to release him on Monday.

The reason the move was made by Miami was to save $22.8 million, which opens salary cap relief for the franchise, which is looking to move forward.

After a 7-10 record this past season, the Dolphins are set to own the 11th overall pick in the first round of the draft.

Hill now has the opportunity to sign with a new team, which would be his third, after playing with the Chiefs and, most recently, the Dolphins.

He's set to turn 32 years old next month and will look to make a return to action after playing just four games last season due to a major injury he suffered early on.
