Dolphins make major Tyreek Hill roster decision amid $22.8 million in savings

The Miami Dolphins have a lot of work to do this offseason, with the future of Tua Tagovailoa being one of the biggest question marks.

But right behind Tagovailoa was the future of Tyreek Hill in Miami. After a season-ending injury in 2025 and a massive $51 million cap hit in 2026, the Dolphins had to make a decision with Hill.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dolphins did just that. Miami, after a few great seasons, is releasing Hill in a move that will save them $18.2 million this offseason.

Dolphins to cut Tyreek Hill with $22.8 million in savings

"Sources: Miami's eight-time Pro Bowl WR Tyreek Hill is being released," Schefter reports. "Hill turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a dislocated knee and torn ACL, and now will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career."

The future of Hill in Miami was one of the bigger questions the Dolphins faced this offseason, and thanks to the cap savings, which come in at $22.8 million, this decision to cut Hill made the most sense.

His recovery is going to be a tough one, as his leg injury isn't a simple ACL recovery. He's got a long road back to the NFL, and the Dolphins are cutting him to let him join a new team in free agency, saving a lot of money in doing so.

Hill is going to be 32 years old on March 1st and will be joining a new team for the 2026 NFL season.

After four years in Miami, where he was named to two Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro twice, Hill will be a free agent for the first time in his 10-year NFL career.
