Milwaukee Bucks superstar and two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo even weighed in on one of the biggest debates in modern soccer: who is the true GOAT – Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
The argument has only grown more intense over time. While Messi strengthened his case by winning the World Cup, Ronaldo continues chasing records into his 40s, including the remarkable goal of reaching 1,000 career goals.

“I think Messi is a pure talent, and with hard work and discipline throughout his career and consistent of being at the top… maybe he’s the best player of all-time. But for me, I relate and I get closer to people that I’m similar to, like hard work, discipline, and take care of your body. You know, be consistent for many years. He’s 41 years old now, right? Still playing the high level. So my mindset is closer to Cristiano Ronaldo mindset,” commented the Greek Freak.

Ronaldo’s journey is often told through a different lens. While naturally gifted from a young age, it was his relentless work ethic that elevated him to the elite level.
“Different people. He’s more flashy than me, and I’m not like that, but when it comes to the game – the love, the consistency – push the envelope and keep on getting better, I’m more similar to Ronaldo. So when you ask me that question, I’d say Ronaldo.”
Through strict discipline, rigorous conditioning, and an unyielding drive to improve, the Portuguese star became a clutch performer on the sport’s biggest stages. That dedication helped him guide his national team to two major international trophies over the past decade.

On the other hand, Messi is often compared to Michael Jordan in the world of soccer. His natural talent is so exceptional that every touch of the ball seems magical. Watching him play, you can really say that football is “the beautiful game.” Beyond that, his vision, dribbling, balance, and seamless control consistently leave fans across the globe in awe.
The Milwaukee Bucks star made sure to show respect for Messi and his devoted fans, quickly recognizing the Argentine’s remarkable achievements, including multiple Ballon d’Or awards and a World Cup victory.
