Dolphins make final decision on Tyreek Hill after disappointing 2025 season

The Miami Dolphins have a new general manager and coaching staff, and it's clear they will have plenty of new players as well.

The team already cut veteran edge-rusher Bradley Chubb, and that wasn't the only big announcement made on Monday. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the team is also cutting star wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

It's not exactly surprising to see the Dolphins move on from Hill. The veteran has had a couple of disappointing seasons in a row, by his standards, and only played in four games due to injury in 2025.

Hill has also expressed unhappiness with the Dolphins on several different occasions. The receiver has requested and walked back trade requests multiple times, and it's clear the new regime just wanted to cut bait and start over.

Hill was slated to have a cap hit of over $51 million in 2026. The Dolphins will clear just under $23 million in cap space with Hill's release but will also eat about $28 million in dead money.

The star receiver will now be looking to join his third NFL team. Hill initially joined the Dolphins in 2022 and his first two seasons with the team were elite. Hill made the Pro Bowl and was a First-team All-Pro selection in both of his first two seasons with the Dolphins.

However, 2024 was a big step backwards for Hill and the Dolphins. Tua Tagovailoa got hurt and Hill ended up with less than 1,000 receiving yards for just the second time in his career.

2025 was just disastrous all around. The Dolphins struggled again, Tagovailoa got benched, and Hill suffered a devastating, season-ending injury. Head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier were fired after the season.

Now that Hill is a free agent, rumors will inevitably surface about a return to Kansas City. Hill may not be the player he once was, and he's coming off a serious injury, but there should be plenty of interest in the star.

It will be interesting to see how the Dolphins address the receiver position now. Jaylen Waddle is still around, but it's clear that more weapons are needed for the 2026 season.
