Regular watchers of Liverpool this season will agree that Dominik Szoboszlai has been the best player at the club.
Mohamed Salah’s unfortunate underperformance has paved the way for a new talisman and although Hugo Ekitike has made a good case for the title himself, Liverpool have come to rely on Szoboszlai more than anyone else.
Many Liverpool fans online began to compare him to Steven Gerrard in earnest. The similarities have always been there, not to mention the Hungarian bears Gerrard’s famous no.8 jersey.
This season, however, he has shown an extraordinary level of versatility, much like Gerrard. Szoboslai has played every position this season, barring centre-back and striker.

So… it’s no surprise Real Madrid are beginning to circle. The 25-year-old has 10 goals and 7 assists – the most of any player at Liverpool this season.
In the aftermath of the 3-0 FA Cup win over Brighton, Mohamed Salah paid homage to Szoboszlai and declared him among the very best players in the world.
The Egyptian told TNT Sports: “I think a cup run depends on his performances. We rely on him so much. This season, he is one of the best players in the world.”
Real Madrid appear to begin courting Dominik Szoboszlai
E-Noticies reports that Real Madrid are actively trying to offload Eduardo Camavinga and attempting to convince the Frenchman to leave the club in the summer transfer window.
Their report states that Madrid have offered Liverpool €30million (£26m, $35.6m) and Camavinga for Szoboszlai.
They claim that ‘Álvaro Arbeloa does not consider him essential’ and are very keen to use him to get Szoboszlai.
Frankly, that is a disrespectful offer for Szoboszlai. Camavinga is no doubt a top player, but his Liverpool counterpart is streets ahead and able to perform to the same level regardless of where he plays.
Don’t think Liverpool have scored a better goal all season. Everything Anfield has wanted to see – moving it quickly, the precision, the movement, the quality. https://t.co/gT6lDLdPaw

Szoboszlai is under contract with Liverpool until 30 June 2028, and if they paid £61m for him in 2023, his value has only doubled since.
Vinicius comments suggest Madrid have turned on charm offensive
Real Madrid are infamous for tapping up players (see Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibou Konate) and it appears they are doing the same thing with Szoboszlai now.
“I talk a lot with Szoboszlai,” the Brazil international told YouTuber Ibai. “We met when we were younger. [Lucas] Paqueta is my best friend in football.
“Raphinha in Barcelona, Savinho, Reinier in Brazil, who’s played here too. We Brazilians are almost always together off the field.
“But from other teams who aren’t Brazilian, Reece James, I’m very good friends with him. Rafael Leao, I have quite a few friends outside.”
