Jurgen Klopp‘s agent has revealed that the former Liverpool manager turned down approaches from Man United and Chelsea following his departure from Anfield.
Klopp is working as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer and recently said he currently doesn’t want to coach again but “cannot say never.”
With the German still a highly sought-after manager despite being out of the job for more than 18 months, his agent revealed to Transfermarkt how some of Liverpool’s rivals approached Klopp following his Anfield exit.
Agent Marc Kosicke said: “Before joining Red Bull, Jurgen could have coached the USA or England. Probably Germany too, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn’t already been there.

“Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England. These inquiries haven’t stopped.”
Asked if Klopp would consider a return to coaching, Kosicke explained: “At the moment, I don’t see that happening, because he’s very happy with his new role and in this environment.
“He’s also found a kindred spirit in Mario Gomez (Technical Director at Red Bull).
“Mario used to hate Jurgen because he stole two league titles and a DFB Cup from him. And Jurgen, in turn, would have loved to have Mario on his team. The two of them make a great combination today. Mario believes that Jurgen often says things he himself thinks.
“Maybe he’ll say again someday that he needs to smell the locker room again, but right now, as I said, he’s very, very happy in his role.”
Jurgen Klopp and the Germany job
Klopp is actually returning to management very soon, for Liverpool Legends! It will be his first visit to Anfield since he watched the Reds lift the Premier League title last May.
The closest professional role to which he has been linked, though, is manager of Germany, a job occupied at the moment by Julian Nagelsmann.
“Jurgen feels very connected to this country,” Kosicke commented.

“The question doesn’t even arise at the moment. I don’t think he feels he has to do it at least once. Rather, he feels a sense of obligation, that he couldn’t always say no to the job.”
While Klopp and his team have always been quick to emphasise that he isn’t particularly looking for a new job in management, there has always been a sense that they are leaving the door open should he change his mind down the line.
A return for Liverpool is very unlikely, but a job like coaching Die Mannschaft could be a slightly less intense affair as you are not in the spotlight quite as much as at Liverpool, during the club season anyway!
