Man United have been credited with interest in Alexis Mac Allister ahead of the summer window, and Liverpool can respond in the funniest way.
This one came out of left field.
Mac Allister hasn’t been at his best for Liverpool this season, and there has been some speculation about a future away from Anfield.
That being said, the idea that he would be let go to Old Trafford — not that he has expressed any interest in doing so — is rather ludicrous.
You’re Richard Hughes, how are you responding when Real Madrid call to ask about Szoboszlai?
What price are you quoting?

If he is to depart in the summer, it would give Liverpool the opportunity to get some two-decade old revenge on their bitter rivals.
Liverpool can give Man United the Gabriel Heinze treatment with Alexis Mac Allister
United’s interest in Mac Allister is more than a bit of a surprise.
The Mirror report that INEOS are keeping ‘close tabs’ on the Argentinian as uncertainty grows around his future at Anfield.
But this would be the first time in over sixty years that a transfer takes place between the two clubs.
MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
It almost happened back in 2007, when Gabriel Heinze tried to force a move to Liverpool.
The move was blocked by Alex Ferguson, who elected to sell him to Real Madrid instead. He famously said: “I can assure you, Liverpool will not be getting Gabriel Heinze.”

If the midfielder is to leave, Liverpool can exact precise revenge, with Real Madrid’s interest in Mac Allister already there.
The World Cup-winner has been an invaluable cog in the Slot machine, especially during Liverpool’s title charge, but the possibility of him leaving is there.
It just won’t be to Man United.
Alexis Mac Allister or Curtis Jones will leave in the summer
As dominant as Liverpool’s midfield was last season, the same cannot be said for the unit since the front line was stripped for parts.
Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez were some of the best pressers in the Premier League, but the players who came in the summer offer much less protection.
HYPOTHETICAL: Liverpool can only have one local lad in the squad next season…
Who are you choosing and why? 👀

Slot needs a different profile in there. Someone who can break up the play like Fabinho and shore up Liverpool’s defence.
For that purpose, one of Mac Allister and Curtis Jones could be put on the chopping block. I’d be shocked if they are both still at the club when the next league campaign kicks off.
