Two potential replacements for Titans' tight end Chig Okonkwo

Chig Okonkwo is an athletic tight end who can cause problems. This season, he showed how much of a problem he could be with his athleticism and desire to get the most out of his receptions, having 56 receptions for 560 yards and two touchdowns. But this offseason, a decision must be made. Okonkwo is a free agent and there is no guarantee the [Titans](https://www.sportingnews.com/uk/nfl/tennessee-titans) will re-sign him. The Titans could go to free agency to add another tight end and they also could add another tight end to go with Gunnar Helm. The choice is with Tennessee. But, in the event the Titans do not sign Chig back, there are a couple of options available for the Titans to replace him.

One option is Tampa Bay tight end Cole Otton. Like Chig, Otton has just completed his fourth season in the NFL. He does not have the same yards-per-reception as Okonkwo, with 9.3 yards per catch to Okonkwo’s 14.1. But what he does have is the ability to show up consistently in moments consistently. Okonkwo is a talented tight end, but over his career with Tennessee, he disappeared when things mattered most and showed up when they mattered least. Otton has always been there in those big moments and bringing him in to help Ward and get open consistently would be a good addition. And also, Otton is a better blocker than Chig and is considered a guy who can not only help in the running game but also be an in-line blocker at tight end, which would help the Titans' running game.

But Otten isn’t the only guy who could help. [Browns](https://www.sportingnews.com/uk/nfl/cleveland-browns) tight end David Njoku is also scheduled to go into free agency and he made it known on social media that he would not be returning to Cleveland. He is known for his athleticism and for making acrobatic catches. Those attributes and his career 10.9 yards per reception make him an attractive target and one who could have an effect, as Okonkwo does. He has been pretty consistent throughout his career, and with solid quarterback play, he has shown he can make things happen. But a couple of things could keep the Titans away from him. Njoku will be 30 when the season starts and he has battled through injuries over the years. On a one-year deal, it could be worth it for Tennessee, as the contract could be somewhere in the $10 million a year range. The decision the Titans would have to make is whether to bring him in for one year or multiple years, given his injury history.

The Titans' tight end room could look a lot different this season, depending on which route they decide to take. But if they decide to go into free agency, these two tight ends will garner some attention.
