RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has revealed that he previously rejected the chance to join Chelsea, insisting that choosing a development-focused path through CD Leganés ultimately proved crucial for his career.
Speaking in an interview with German outlet Bild the Ivory Coast international explained that, as a teenager, he was faced with what many described as an obvious choice — to sign for ***CHELSEA***— yet opted for what he believed was the better environment for immediate playing time and long-term growth.
“A lot of people told me I absolutely had to play for CHELSEA,” Diomande said.“A lot of people told me I absolutely had to play for Chelsea. Then I stopped everything and made a decision for myself. I knew the president of Leganes; he had helped with my move to the USA.
“Suddenly, I was faced with a choice: Leganes or Chelsea? It was risky, but luckily, it was the right decision. I think patience is very important in football. It’s not always just about money. If you play well, it will come naturally.
‘I’m young; I need to play to increase my sporting value, to improve. And I wouldn’t get that on the bench.”
Reflecting on the path he took, he reiterated that bypassing a high-profile move early in his career was essential: “I’m happy I chose the road where I could play and grow. That’s what has made the difference.”

It was probably the right decision to snub CHELSEA when he did, he would not have developed and got the game time that he has over the past few seasons, it was the right decision.
But no matter how talented the las is, Chelsea will not be the place that he needs to make a move too next, we have some quality players in the side that produce alot more goals and assists that Diomande, he is not ready yet.
