Miami Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley have promised a “culture reset,” marking the end of one of the team’s most prolific offensive eras. The overhaul began with the official release of star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, a move expected to help the team become cap-compliant ahead of the March 11 league year start.
Sullivan and Hafley confirmed that the decision was necessitated by Hill’s astronomical $51,134,044 salary cap hit for the 2026 season. For a team facing a projected $22.3 million deficit, the release immediately cleared $22,851,250 in room.

Regarding the new direction of the team, owner Stephen Ross said:
“I believe great things are ahead for the Miami Dolphins with Jeff Hafley leading the way”.
Hill’s tenure, which saw him record exactly 340 receptions for 4,733 yards and 27 total touchdowns, was ultimately cut short by a catastrophic dislocated left knee and torn ACL suffered in late 2025. At nearly 32 years of age, Hill’s recovery presented what analysts called a high-risk investment for a player whose game relies almost exclusively on “Olympic-level” speed.

“If I had any confidence that Brock Purdy could throw far enough to take advantage of Tyreek Hill’s speed, I would advocate the 49ers to pursue him. But . . . I don’t. Philadelphia could be a fun landing spot for Hill,” a fan commented.
