The Patriots offensive line should be a target for New England in this year’s draft, especially after the unit being upended by the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 60.
In ESPN’s latest mock Draft, Field Yates has the Patriots getting some reinforcement on the O-line by taking offensive tackle/guard Caleb Lomu out of Utah with the 31st pick.
“The Patriots’ run to the Super Bowl was impressive, but it underscored the team’s need to beef up quarterback Drake Maye’s protection. Lomu, who took over at left tackle for Utah in 2024 when Fano moved over to the right side, could slide in at tackle or guard for New England. (Note: I am a firm believer that the Patriots should stay fully committed to Will Campbell at left tackle, as coach Mike Vrabel has already stated will be the case.),” Yates wrote. “Lomu needs to further develop his strength, but the 6-foot-6, 304-pounder is already a solid pass protector who did not allow a single sack in 2025.”
Will Campbell struggled in the playoffs and his performances were a topic of discussion after New England’s Super Bowl loss. Mike Vrabel committed to the LSU product remaining at left tackle beyond 2025.
Lomu could provide the Patriots some versatility on the offensive line by being able to play at tackle or guard.
Whether the Utah product is still on the board when the Patriots pick at 31 remains to be seen, but it should be a priority for the team to add some help for Maye for the 2026 season.
