Florio Thinks Steelers ‘Could Be In Play’ For Tyreek Hill: ‘Can Make A Difference’

There are a few positional groups on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster that the team must supplement this offseason, namely, wide receiver. No matter who plays quarterback in 2026, things won’t look much prettier until the Steelers can add some real, proven talent to that group. The receiver market deepened for the Steelers this week, with the Miami Dolphins planning to release Tyreek Hill, as reported Monday.

There are a few different routes the Steelers can take to add the position. Mike Florio thinks part of that effort could include some interest in Hill.

“The Steelers could be in play. They’ve got DK Metcalf, and what, Calvin Austin III? No offense, he’s not Tyreek Hill,” Florio said Monday on his Pro Football Talk show.

There are some obvious complications with Hill. He has made his money off his speed and explosiveness, but he’ll be 32 by the time the 2026 season rolls around. And things are significantly altered by the brutal season-ending injury he suffered back in Week 4 against the Jets. Hill dislocated his knee and tore multiple ligaments. That’s obviously a difficult road to recovery.

However, if he makes a full recovery, he’s still a very dangerous receiver. To Florio, Tyreek Hill absolutely could be a short-term stopgap for teams in need of receiving help, like the Steelers.

“Tyreek Hill will be, I believe, in demand. Because if someone can get Tyreek Hill and he’s healthy, Tyreek Hill can make a difference for plenty of teams out there that have had something less than Tyreek Hill at the receiver position in recent years. And he could end up being a difference maker in 2026. Is it a long-term answer? No. Is it a very viable one or two-year fix for a team that’s trying to grab the brass ring? Hell yes,” Florio said.

With his skill set, age, and vicious knee injury, there are some concerns about Hill’s ability to return to his previous level of production. But when he’s healthy, he’s consistently been among the best in the league statistically. He’s not that old and could certainly help a team like the Steelers. His speed alone would take plenty of attention away from DK Metcalf, who didn’t have that luxury last year.

It’s also worth mentioning due to previous reported interest from the Steelers. Back in September, Florio himself mentioned the Steelers’ interest in the veteran. But Florio later claimed that interest was gone due to Mike Tomlin having concerns about Hill’s off-the-field issues, an alleged domestic violence incident investigation from the NFL.

Tyreek Hill has had some off-field issues before, so that’s a risk the Steelers would be taking. And there are several talented receivers in this year’s draft class, who would make more sense for the future. But Hill shouldn’t be discounted as an option. After his knee injury, he could certainly be available for a relatively low price. It would be a low-risk, high-reward move for the Steelers. He’s far from the only candidate, but he’s one worth keeping in mind.
