Tyreek Hill Makes Decision on NFL Future After Dolphins Release

Uncertainty surrounded the Miami Dolphins on Tyreek Hill after the Pro Bowl wide receiver suffered a brutal season-ending injury in Week 4 against the New York Jets.

Hill, a former Super Bowl winner with the Kansas City Chiefs, suffered a dislocated left knee and multiple torn ligaments, requiring major surgery. However, the prognosis for his recovery was optimistic, suggesting he could play again in the 2026 NFL season.

Things took an intriguing turn on Monday, as the Dolphins decided to release Hill from their roster. That expected move arrived ahead of contract guarantees for the upcoming season, and seemingly cast doubt on Hill’s future in the league.

Soon after the news of Hill's release by the Dolphins, sportscaster Josh Moser shared part of his chat with Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus. According to Rosenhaus, it's "one day at a time" for his client's recovery.

Rosenhaus also indicated that Hill is “progressing well” and wants to play again in the future.

“He had a challenging injury, but he is working his tail off and doing everything he can to get back as soon as possible,” he said, adding, “Certainly, Tyreek would be the first one to say that he has a lot of work to do.”

“He has said to me that he wants to play again, and if Tyreek has made up his mind that that’s what he wants to do, then I have no doubt that he’ll do it,” Rosenhaus said on “Sports Xtra.”

Rosenhaus also indicated that Hill “could change his mind at any time,” so he was leaving it up to him, but reiterated that the star wide receiver “does intend to play next season.”

Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, was also the NFL receiving yards leader and NFL receiving touchdowns co-leader in 2023. After entering the league in 2016 with the Kansas City Chiefs, he achieved a Super Bowl ring while playing alongside Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and others on the roster in 2020.

He joined the Dolphins in 2022, but his recent NFL season wasn’t quite as successful as he might have hoped for. Hill finished with just 21 receptions for 265 yards and a touchdown after four games.

Amid his recovery, the team fired head coach Mike McDaniel once the season ended and hired Jeff Hafley as the new coach last month.

According to CBS Sports, Hill signed an extension with Miami last offseason worth $90 million, and a final year cap hit of nearly $52 million. The Dolphins will take a $28.2 million dead cap hit in 2026 due to releasing him before June 1.
