Liverpool coach issues encouraging injury update on forward

Liverpool continue to have several players sidelined following their 3-0 FA Cup win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield. Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Mohamed Salah scored as Arne Slot’s side advanced to the fifth round.

Wataru Endo missed the game with an ankle injury, while Jeremie Frimpong is still recovering from a thigh problem. Long-term absentees Alexander Isak, Giovanni Leoni, and Conor Bradley remain out.

The Reds now focus on their Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Academy graduate Jayden Danns has been limited by injuries throughout his Liverpool career.

Danns made his only senior appearance as a substitute in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup win over Southampton in September and has not played since featuring for the U21s a few days later.

Arne Slot said last month: “Jayden, if he would have been fit, he would have definitely been in the squad but unfortunately he isn’t and we don’t expect him back today or tomorrow as well.

“He’s been very unlucky in his career until now, but the good thing about him is that he has a great mentality. So, he’s always fighting himself back after setbacks and he has, unfortunately, had quite a lot because this would have been a great moment for him with Alexander Isak being out and the quality he has, that he could have been with us and helped us in certain moments.

“But unfortunately for him, but also for us, he’s faced a lot of injuries in his career until now. But the good thing about him is that he will fight back and come back and the world will get to know him the moment he’s fit again.”

Liverpool under-21 coach Rob Page has now provided an encouraging injury update on Danns. Page said: “Jayden (Danns) is doing really well.

“We do have a medical meeting on Tuesday, so I’ll know more then to what level he’s at. Every morning he’s out on the grass, and he’s getting better and better, stronger and stronger every day.”
