'I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but...': Elite teenager cools Liverpool transfer rumours but reveals his dad's LFC connection

Yan Diomande has clarified claims about his love for Liverpool amid reports that the Reds will sign him from RB Leipzig in the summer.

Liverpool spent £460m in the summer transfer window, signing gems like Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike but they seem set to go all out again next summer.

Rennes’ defender Jeremy Jacquet is already confirmed as the first signing of the summer window to come. He will cost a confirmed £60m which may seem steep but he’s set to become one of the best defenders in the world, according to many youth football experts.

With Cody Gakpo underperforming and Mo Salah’s future shrouded in doubt even after his recent upturn in form, the Reds are likely to sign a top forward again this summer.

The focus is on signing an elite wide player and RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande is chief among their targets. This season, the 19-year-old has nine goals and six assists while also being an incredible manipulator of the ball at high speed.

Yan Diomande replies to claims that he loves Liverpool more than any club

Speaking to German news outlet BILD, Liverpool target Yan Diomande has hit back at widespread rumours that the Merseyside club is his favourite in the world of football.

Diomande said: “People made it out to be my dream club. But first and foremost, it’s my dad’s favourite club.

“It was always his great wish to see me there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield.

“He always raved about Steven Gerrard. I was too young to see him play.

“We didn’t even have a TV at home for a long time. I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig.”

Liverpool look likely for another huge summer bill

With Liverpool’s spending this summer set to begin with a £60m commitment to Rennes, it seems unlikely they will be able to keep their spending to a reasonable level.

Even if they don’t spend record amounts on singular signings as they did with Wirtz and Isak, Liverpool have several key issues that need addressing that will likely take spending to a high point.

Centre-back may get another signing if Ibou Konate doesn’t put pen to paper on a new contract before the end of the season. Liverpool’s midfield will likely also get some attention while right-back seems cursed since Trent Alexander-Arnold left and should receive some investment too.
