‘We defended very badly’ – Hansi Flick gives his verdict on Barcelona’s defeat to Girona

Hansi Flick did not want to talk about match officials after seeing his [Barcelona team beaten by Girona](/barcelona-la-liga/112916/girona-barcelona-la-liga-final-score-match-report-recap-reactions) on Monday night and instead criticised his team for their performance.

Barcelona passed up a host of chances in the first half but took the lead when Pau Cubarsi headed home. However, Girona hit back thanks to goals from Thomas Lemar and Fran Beltran.

Flick was asked about the winner, which came after what looked to be a foul on Jules Kounde, but didn’t want to talk about the referees and focused on his side instead.

“I don’t want to speak about that. Everyone saw the situation before the second goal, but Girona deserved it. We defended very badly, especially in transition, we were too open, our midfield was not in the right position,” he told reporters.

“We haven’t been comfortable, we haven’t positioned ourselves well. The team isn’t in a good place right now. We need to calm down, get back to being what we used to be. We’ll give the team two days off so we can see them back to their best.”

That’s now two defeats in a row for Barcelona and lots to think about before they host Levante at the weekend.
