Wrexham owner and Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds was left near speechless as his side were drawn against Chelsea in the last-16 of the FA Cup. The Welsh side will host the Blues next month as they fight for a spot in the quarter-final of the world's oldest cup competition.

Reynolds was filmed watching the draw live alongside Hugh Jackman and had quite the reaction as the news sank in. "Ohhh, Chelsea", exclaimed Jackman as Reynolds stared open-mouthed at his tablet screen.

"Wait, wait, wait, we're home to Chelsea," came the first words from the Deadpool star. "That's what you wanted," said Wolverine actor Jackman and Reynolds began to clap before uttering more colourful language. "Yes. What the ****?" he said.

Posting the video on X, Reynolds said: "Chelsea at the Racecourse! Holy crap."

Josh Windass netted the goal that saw the Red Dragons triumph 1-0 over Ipswich Town to secure FA Cup progress at the Racecourse Ground on Friday evening. Chelsea, meanwhile, dispatched Hull City 4-0. Phil Parkinson's side have already defeated Premier League opposition when they beat Nottingham Forest in a penalty shootout in the previous round. Chelsea are likely to provide a stiffer test.

But Parkinson has already enjoyed some success over the Blues in the competition. In 2014, the coach led Bradford back from two goals down to defeat Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge. Wrexham last played Chelsea competitively in 1982 in Division 2, after playing each other three times in FA Cup action in the same year. Draws home and away eventually saw the London side prevail in a third tie 2-1.

More recently, the clubs met, following Wrexham's takeover, in friendly action in the United States. They face off in front of 50,596 supporters at Kenan Stadium, North Carolina, in 2023 and then at Levi’s Stadium, California in 2024.

Speaking after beating Ipswich, Parkinson was happy to savour the moment. He said: "We spoke before the game about our chance to create a bit of history.

"We've done it and I'm so pleased because it was always going to be a tough game against a very good side. Every season in football is special, you've got to savour it and the FA Cup is part of that.

"It was important that we backed up the Nottingham Forest win with another win. This season, with the challenge of being in the Championship and now an FA Cup run, we want to enjoy it and we certainly did tonight."
