Raiders continue to build coaching staff under Klint Kubiak

The Las Vegas Raiders new defensive line coach probably has plenty of team gear stashed away in the closet.

Travis Smith, who spent nearly a decade in various roles with the Raiders from 2012 to 2021, is back as part of Klint Kubiak’s first staff.

Smith spent last season as the defensive run game coordinator with the Tennessee Titans after three seasons as defensive line coach with the Chicago Bears. He was expected to convert to a new role of senior defensive assistant and pass rush specialist this season before instead opting to come to the Raiders.

He first paid his NFL dues with the Raiders, starting as a defensive assistant then as defensive quality control coach. Smith then coached outside linebackers and was assistant defensive line coach when he worked with Maxx Crosby under Rod Marinelli.

Smith first broke into coaching at his alma mater of Cal Poly before brief stints at Santa Monica Junior College and Colorado.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
