Cam Newton's BET Show 106 & Sports has been canceled

Former NFL star-turned-media-lightning-rod Cam Newton's professional media run just hit its first real wall.

BET officially canceled Newton's 106 & Sports after a single eight-episode season following reports on Monday that arrived eight days after Super Bowl LX. The network is pulling the plug on the former NFL MVP's attempt to integrate sports, culture, and entertainment under the 106 & Park brand.

The show was filmed at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, and co-hosted with Ashley Nicole Moss, and will remain available on streaming through BET+. A report from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution implied that the choice was made due to poor ratings and a failure to attract social media appeal.

Newton's show was canceled on the same day that saw Cleveland Browns defensive back Ronnie Hickman being ambushed by four men in a NYC hotel lobby during Fashion Week.

Newton's show was produced by NBA superstar LeBron James and his agent, Maverick Carter, through their company, The SpringHill Company. 106 & Sports' initial trailer dropped just four months ago, with its first episode airing on Oct 15th, 2025.

The show featured special guests including rapper/hooper LiAngelo Ball, WNBA star Brittney Griner, women's boxer Claressa Shields, and Chad "Ocho Cinco" Johnson.

The timing of the cancellation came after Newton spent much of the 2025 NFL season and the weeks leading into Super Bowl LX repeatedly calling the New England Patriots "fool's gold," aimed at second-year quarterback Drake Maye.

On ESPN's First Take, Newton dismissed the Patriots' record as "cubic zirconia," and argued their success was schedule-driven and built on a dominant defense rather than quarterback supremacy.

Maye dismissed Newton's criticism completely. "I don't even know what show he's on," Maye said. "I think they get paid to make remarks and make certain comments."

"I'm just worried about what people in our organization think, and worry about (what) we think and what my teammates think," he continued. "People are going to have different opinions. I'm just going out there on Sunday and worrying about ourselves."

Newton reiterated on First Take that "no one" would choose Maye over league MVPs Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. On Radio Row before the Super Bowl, Newton said the Patriots' success was due to their defense, not Maye.

Super Bowl LX favored Newton after New England's 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Maye threw two interceptions and lost a fumble, nearly validating his criticisms. Newton softened his tone the next day and said Maye's season wasn't a failure.

Newton still remains active on YouTube, where he hosts two shows under his iconic Saga production company. His 4th & 1 with Cam Newton sports analysis show and Funky Friday weekly lifestyle show combine for nearly two million subscribers, in addition to appearing on ESPN’s morning debate program.
