Newcastle United injury news: The latest on Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Miley and Joelinton ahead of Qarabag and Manchester City matches.
Newcastle United’s relentless fixture schedule continues this week with a long trip to Azerbaijan.
The Magpies play the first-leg of their Champions League play-off round against Qarabag on Wednesday night (5:45pm kick-off UK time) before making the trip to the Etihad Stadium for a Premier League clash against title chasing Manchester City. Eddie Howe rotated his team for their win over Aston Villa at the weekend and, judging by the club’s current injury list, may again opt to rotate his team this week to keep everyone fresh for a brutal run of fixtures before the next international break.
Here, we take a look at Newcastle United’s current injury list and when those sidelined players could be expected back in action.
Newcastle United injury news & estimated return dates
Fabian Schar - ankle injury
Schar suffered a fairly serious ankle injury against Leeds United last month, although initial prognosis on the injury was not as severe as first thought. There is hope he can return to action before the end of the season, although he still has a long road to recovery.
Estimated return date -Bournemouth(h) weekend of April 18
Joelinton - groin injury
A groin injury has kept Joelinton out of action since their league defeat against Aston Villa last month. Howe admitted at the time that Joelinton is facing ‘weeks rather than months’ on the sidelines and he has since provided a fairly positive update on his recovery.
Estimated return date - Manchester City (a) 21/02/26

Emil Krafth - knee injury
Krafth hasn’t featured for Newcastle United since their defeat against West Ham at the London Stadium at the beginning of November. There has not been a timeframe placed on his return to action.
Estimated return date - unknown
Lewis Miley - leg injury
Miley hasn’t featured since Newcastle United’s draw with PSG last month. The teenager has suffered an injury to his leg and whilst there was hope that it was not a significant problem, it has been enough to keep him out of their last five matches. He is a major doubt to feature against Qarabag and could remain sidelined for another few weeks, according to reports.
Estimated return date - Qarabag (h) 24/02/26
Tino Livramento - hamstring injury
Livramento is still facing a number of weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Howe admitted at the end of January that it would still be another five or six weeks until the England international would be able to return to action. That timescale should see him return before the March international break.
Estimated return date -Chelsea(a) 14/03/26
Bruno Guimaraes - muscle injury
Guimaraes suffered an injury late on against Spurs last week and missed their FA Cup victory at Villa Park on Saturday. It has since been revealed that the Brazilian will miss a substantial amount of matches and is not expected to return to action until after the next international break.
An estimated eight to ten weeks on the sidelines will keep Guimaraes out of action until April. Guimaraes, like Schar before him, will at minimum miss Newcastle United’s next eight matches. Progress in the Champions League would knock that figure up to ten games in all competitions.
Estimated return date - Crystal Palace (a) weekend of April 11
Sven Botman - back injury
Botman also missed out at Villa Park on Saturday after he picked up a back injury against Tottenham Hotspur. Howe, though, confirmed that he was hopeful that the Dutchman wouldn’t be out of action for too long.
Estimated return date - Manchester City (a) 21/02/26
Yoane Wissa - knock
Wissa picked up a knock in training last week and has been ruled-out for ‘a couple of games’. The DR Congo international, therefore, could miss both legs of their Champions League clash with Qarabag and their trip to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Estimated return date - Everton (h) 28/02/26
