Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has surprisingly been linked with a move to Manchester United.
Alexis Mac Allister is not a concrete target for Manchester United after his shock transfer links to Liverpool’s bitter rivals, reports suggest.
It has been suggested by the Daily Mirror that United are eyeing a move for the Argentina international in the summer transfer window. Mac Allister joined Liverpool for £35 million from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023 and has been a key player throughout his time at Anfield.
Last season, he was a regular starter as Arne Slot’s side claimed the Premier League title.
However, the 27-year-old is out of contract in 2028 with an extension yet to be renewed. In addition, Mac Allister’s form has dropped this season, with the Reds surrendering their English championship and sitting just sixth in the table.
United are set to have a big summer in terms of recruitment, particularly in midfield, as Casemiro will depart at the end of his deal while the future of Manuel Ugarte is uncertain. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Old Trafford club have not expressed serious interest in Mac Allister.
Speaking on YouTube, Romano said: “At the moment, I'm not aware of anything concrete of strong in terms of links between Manchester United and Mac Allister. Man United will be busy in the summer. Man United will be really busy with that position - could be one, could be two midfielders.
"It could be really interesting, but before they decide who they want, there are two main points to clarify: whether they play in the Champions League next season, which will influence their budget, and who will be the manager - Michael Carrick or other candidates.
“Man United will not decide in February. Among the names, there's Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, who was a top target under [Ruben] Amorim, Sandro Tonali, and others. At the moment with Alexis Mac Allister, there is nothing really advanced, concrete or starting in terms of conversations.”
Mac Allister has also been linked with a potential switch to Real Madrid on several occasions. However, his father recently insisted that the 2022 World Cup winner is happy at Liverpool.
Via WinWin, Mac Allister Snr said: "What I can say at the moment is that Alexis is focused on Liverpool and the current season. Alexis is very happy and very comfortable with Liverpool.”
