The Baltimore Ravens enter the 2026 offseason with stability across much of their roster, but one looming issue could alter the franchise’s trajectory. At the center of that uncertainty is quarterback Lamar Jackson and the potential complications surrounding his contract situation.
Analysts examining worst-case scenarios for every team have identified Jackson’s negotiations as Baltimore’s most pressing concern. If talks stall or create tension, it could disrupt the organization’s carefully constructed momentum following another competitive campaign in the AFC.

Jackson remains the engine of the Ravens’ offense, combining elite mobility with improved pocket command. Any prolonged uncertainty regarding his future would not only dominate headlines but also complicate roster planning, free-agent pursuits and salary cap flexibility. The Ravens have built their identity around his dynamic skill set, making contractual instability particularly risky.
A breakdown in negotiations could force Baltimore into difficult strategic decisions, from restructuring deals elsewhere on the roster to considering contingency plans at quarterback. Even the perception of discord can shift leverage in contract discussions and influence how other players view the franchise’s long-term direction.

A contract standoff is seen as the worst-case scenario for Baltimore. This is detailed more in an analysis by Kristopher Knox for Bleacher Report.
According to NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo, Jackson is set to enter contract negotiations with the Ravens. If talks break down, it could create a massive problem.
Jackson is set to carry a $74.5 million cap hit that the Ravens would clearly like to lower. If the two-time MVP sours on negotiations, there’s a chance he could request a trade, as he did when he was unhappy with contract talks in 2023. However unlikely, that would be a disaster for the Ravens.
For a team that has invested heavily in surrounding Jackson with upgraded weapons and continuity on the coaching staff, the timing of negotiations is critical. Allowing uncertainty to linger deep into the offseason could hinder offseason acquisitions and create distractions as preparations for training camp intensify.
Baltimore’s front office understands that preserving stability at quarterback is paramount in a conference stacked with elite passers. Avoiding a contract impasse with Jackson may ultimately define whether the Ravens remain firmly in the championship conversation or face a self-inflicted setback before the season even begins.
